The First International Public Conference On Vaccination
Reported by Annemarie ColbinThe First International Public Conference On Vaccination, sponsored by the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) was held on September 13-15 in Arlington, VA. Some five hundred people attended, well above the 200-250 that the organizers expected originally. Among the attendees were scientists, attorneys, health care practitioners, and many concerned parents, some with vaccine-damaged children..
The first day of the program was focused on the scientific aspects of vaccination. Respected scientists, most of whom had a personal pro-vaccine position, described the various ways vaccines affect the immune system, and how they can provoke genetic and chromosome damage. The biological mechanisms of vaccine injury were described, as well as the connection between vaccines, infant death, and learning disabilities...
Keynote addresses were given by Barbara Loe Fisher, president of the NVIC, and Lea Thompson, the NBC "Dateline" correspondent whose 1982 documentary "DPT: Vaccine roulette," first made the general public aware of the problem...
The second day was focused on possible help and solutions. Harris L... Coulter, PhD, co-author of "DPT: A shot in the dark" and author of "Vaccination, Social Violence, and Criminality," was unfortunately unable to attend due to personal health problems; his long-standing concern about the adverse effects of vaccination was honored by Mrs Fisher. The different methodologies that help the vaccine injured include Chiropractic, Naturopathic medicine, Homeopathy, metabolic and nutritional support, and what is termed "integrative medicine," a wholistic approach that combines different modalities. The final part of the program dealth with legal issues and informed consent..
On Monday the 15th, about seventy attendees went to Congress and spoke with their home legislators and aides to express their concerns and leave behind a package of information from the NVIC..

I have been following the work done recently
by the Hornorable Dan Burton regarding the vaccine injury issue and the
FDA. While his area of concentration has been directed toward the injury
of autism, it has also been found that the MMR vaccine causes numerous
other serious illnesses in children. I have read the basics of the
Childhood Vaccine Injury Compensation Act, and have learned recently that
it was passed in 1986, and that the injured party, or parents of the
injured child would have to apply for compensation within 3 years of the
first symptoms, due to a 3 years statute of limitations clause. My son's
symptoms of type one diabetes began in 1985, and he was diagnosed in
September of 1985. I myself, my family and relatives, have always
followed the news very closely, and have always been especially alert to
any news regarding diabetes research or medical progress concerning this
disease. I have always been extremely attentive to each word my son's
doctors have said to me through the years about his health care, and have
been diligent in following their instructions. I have been told by
doctors, even up to 1995, that type 1 diabetes is genetically inherited.Not one physician ever said a word to me concerning this vaccine injury
compensation act. Not one person amongst my family or relatives ever heard
a word of this on the national, state or local news. As a result , my
son, who is 20 years old now, who is having great difficulties, is not
eligible for vaccine compensation. I learned about the Vaccine Injury
Compensation Act this, year, because I got the internet, and found it
there. My son suffers from severe ADHD, as well as type 1 diabetes, and
is unable to hold a job, due to his health problems. (I have learned that
both ADHD, and type one diabetes find their origins in the MMR vaccine.)If I had been able to have awareness of this Vaccine Injury Compensation
Act, within the 3 year statute of limitations, (by 1988), it would have
helped me to have been able to afford to send him to the educational
diabetes camps for diabetic children. I would have been able to put the
rest of this money which he so desperately needs now, into a trust fund
for him, which I would have done, because I have always been worried about
his future, due to my knowledge of the devasting complications of this
disease, and due to the fact that he became diabetic at such a young age,
(age of three years old.) The ADHD, which causes my son to have
difficulty with organization and daily routines, has complicated his type
one diabetes self care, which requires daily vigilance and structure. Do
you know why this vaccine injury compensation information was suppressed?If so, who suppressed this information from the news media, and why was it
suppressed? Was this compensation information suppressed at that time
from the doctors and endocrinologists who care for the children with type
one diabetes? I simply cannot believe or accept that my son's doctors
would have deliberately withheld this information from me. It seems there
would be liability against the organization or government agency who
suppressed this information from the public, and from the victims who were
injured and entitled to compensation. This compensation would be an
absolute God-send to my son who desperately needs it at this time. I
would hope that the statute of limitations will be taken off the Vaccine
Injury Compensation Act. It would make sense, because the medical records
are there, and say it all,... for these kids who are adults now. The
medical records clearly show that these kids developed type one diabetes
following the MMR vaccination. These young adults have suffered for many
years,(nearly all of their lives) and have had some tough times, believe
me Mr. Burns, I have been right there to see. Marc, my son, cannot recall
the time when he was not a diabetic. Thank you for your help in this

following testimony, which was made before the California legislature,
which explains very well the vaccine injuries done to thousands of
children in America every year.THE TESTIMONY OF BARBARA LOE FISHER TO THE
CALIFORNIA LEGISLATUREPersonally, I come here as a parent of a son who had a neurological
reaction to his fourth DPT shot at age two and a half that caused brain
dysfunction, including multiple learning disabilities and attention deficit
disorder (ADD), but who was fortunate not to lose his life or be left with
mental retardation, uncontrolled epilepsy, autism, or other severe
disabilities like so many of the vaccine injured children I have come to
know. When my son had his vaccine reaction in 1980, children in America
were told to get 23 doses of 7 vaccines. Today, children are told to get 37
doses of 11 vaccines. In those 22 years since my son had his vaccine
reaction, the numbers of American children with learning disabilities,
attention deficit disorder and asthma have doubled; diabetes has tripled;
and the incidence of autism has reached epidemic proportions, increasing
200 to 600 percent in every state, marking a staggering 3400 percent
increase in the prevalence of autism in our children.Nobody knows why this has happened. But everyone at the Centers for
Disease Control and American Academy of Pediatrics, the two medical groups
that make vaccine policy in this country, vigorously deny that the many
vaccines they have urged be mandated in the past quarter century could have
anything to do with why more and more of our so children are chronically
ill. They say that vaccines only rarely cause chronic health problems.Yet, the haunting question remains: if we have wiped out polio and
almost eliminated measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough and other
childhood diseases with vaccines - why are so many of our children stuck on
sick? Why are our special education classrooms so crowded that we can't
find enough money or train teachers fast enough to care for these learning
disabled, hyperactive, autistic, asthmatic, diabetic, emotionally
disturbed, sick children? Something is wrong with this public health
report card.And before we go any further and mandate one more vaccine for daycare
or kindergarten entry - whether it is Prevnar or hepatitis A or some other
vaccine - we had better find out if the repeated manipulation of the immune
system with lab altered viruses and bacteria adulterated with mercury,
aluminum, formaldehyde and other toxins, which are administered to our
babies from birth through the first five years of life when the brain and
immune system is developing at its most rapid rate, is contributing to
these skyrocketing increases in chronic illness in our children. Without
basic science research into the biological mechanisms of vaccine injury
and death and without methodologically sound, long term studies which
follow groups of highly vaccinated, lesser vaccinated and unvaccinated
children over time to measure for all morbidity and mortality outcomes, it
is illogical and scientifically irresponsible to assume that there is no
connection between the ever increasing numbers of vaccines we mandate for
children and the ever increasing rates of chronic disease in our children.Making this kind of scientific investigation a societal program and
funding priority would, at the very least, give us a better understanding
of the genetic and other biological factors which predispose certain
children to vaccine-induced immune and brain dysfunction, including
whether there is a complex interaction between genetic factors, a
particular vaccine or combination of vaccines and simultaneous exposures
to environmental contaminants such as pesticides, molds and other toxic
