CLAY - MARINE PLANTS, GLYCONUTRIENTS and NATURAL MINERALS - Natural minerals and trace elements are crucial to maintain an animal's good health. I add kelp (sea vegetable), fulvic minerals and clay to my dog's food and I add clay and fulvic minerals to her drinking water too. Experts say that glyconutrients/saccharides' high levels of adaptogens increase energy and stamina by improving your animal's ability to consume and use oxygen. Adaptogens also improve cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart and circulation, and continue to work overtime while your pet is resting by supporting muscle growth and repair.

Dr. Jerry Tennant, M.D. says that marine phytoplankton contains almost everything one needs to sustain life and to restore health by providing the raw materials to make new cells that function normally. Marine phytoplankton has been called "the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet",containing . Patients receiving a cancer drug together with phytoplankton exhibited response rates up to 250 percent better than those obtained by the drug alone. These advanced cancer patients experienced regressions of malignant melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, and other types of cancer. Its antioxidants and unique polysaccharides can halt the genetic mutations that can lead to cancer. Both high levels of saccharides and adaptogens increase energy and stamina by improving our animal's ability to consume and use oxygen. Adaptogens also improve cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart and circulation, and continue to work overtime while your pet is resting by supporting muscle growth and repair. Clay is renowned to have many uses in promoting health in plants, animals and humans. Healing clays, have been used by indigenous cultures since before recorded history. According to Knishinsky, benefits reported by people using liquid clay for a period of two to four weeks include: improved intestinal regularity; relief from chronic constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, and ulcers; a surge in physical energy; clearer complexion; brighter, whiter eyes; enhanced alertness; emotional uplift; improved tissue and gum repair; and increased resistance to infections. Clay works on the entire organism. No part of the body is left untouched by its healing energies, he notes.  Healing clay: Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/clay.htm

Himalayan Crystal Salt - Sodium Deficient Diet - Herds of elephants risk injury and death in a perilous journey to hidden salt caves where they supplement their sodium deficient diets. Our pets also suffer from sogdium deficiency. Farmers place salt-blocks on their pasture so that their livestock and all other animals can lick the salt to their heart's content. An abundance of the ingredients in unrefined real salt are as synonymous with life today as they were a billion years ago before single cells appeared here. Lack of them is synonymous with birth defects, organ failure, decay, diseases, premature aging and death at a young age. Alert: don't supplement your animal's diet with sodium chloride (common table salt); all of the other beneficial elements have been removed. Animals need unrefined, unprocessed real salt. Major producing companies dry their salt in huge kilns with temperatures reaching 1200 degrees F, changing he salt's chemical structure, which in turn adversely affects the human body. Domesticated animals (and us) need the right kind of salt: Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/salt.htm

FISH OIL, FLAXOIL and other healthy oils - A groundswell of nutrition conscious veterinarians are also beginning to recommend to their clients that they supplement their animals diet with a daily dose of flaxseed oil or fish oil poured right over the food. The vets are finding remarkable results in clearing up skin conditions, relieving arthritic and inflammatory pain, as well as improved over all pet health. Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/flaxoil.htm

MEDICINAL AND NUTRITIONAL HERBS FOR PETS

In her book, Wild Health: How Animals Keep Themselves Well and What We Can Learn From Them Cindy Engles, Ph.D. documents:

  • How injured and sick animals retreat in an isolated place to rest and fast until healed.
  • Herds of elephants risk injury and death in a perilous journey to hidden salt caves where they supplement their sodium deficient diet
  • Why  animals eat their own feces. "Eating feces (coprophagy) is one way animals such as gorillas, elephants, rabbits, and hares add to their supply of essential bacteria through adult life. It is therefore an important aspect of their health care."
  • Many species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and even insects, in all parts of the world, eat dirt or clay. Known as geophagy (clay or earth-eating) this habit has long been assumed to be an attempt to rectify mineral deficiciencies in their diet.
  • In the wild, animals instinctively seek out healing herbs to help them when they are ill or undernourished. In fact, Asclepius, the ancient Greek god of medicine, respected dogs very highly for their ability to seek out and eat medicinal herbs in the wild. This ability is shared by other animals, including cats. We are coming to realize that nature often has the answers - but animals have always known this! Natural medicine can help your pet just as it can help you. While there is always a place for conventional veterinary medicine, natural medicine can compliment conventional veterinary care and in many cases cure your pets just as well - without the side effects and damage to health that can accompany synthetic drugs and antibiotics. There are wonderful natural herbal/homeopathic remedies for all types of veterinary health conditions at this website: PetHerbalMeds.com

Dr. John Hanover, DVM -  "I incorporate acupuncture, chiropractic treatments and herbal formulas into my practice to give my patients the best available treatment. Herbs are preferable because they do not have the side effects or toxins that medications do and they sometimes work better. The Amazon Herb formulas are convenient, easy to use and safe. They are not drugs but are whole, concentrated foods so you do not have to worry about giving your pet too much. Modify the amount based on the weight of the animal. After every surgery, Recovazon and Sangre de Drago are applied to the incision prior to the animal waking. Recovazon™ is very effective to facilitate healing and I also prescribe it orally for the patient. Sangre de Drago helps stop bleeding and seals the wound. Young puppies and kittens with respiratory infections are given Shipibo Treasure Tea which they will lap up even when they will not drink water. I frequently recommend Amazon Herbs for my patients, especially geriatric animals and our Search and Rescue dogs.”

Amazon Rainforest herbs are available in the US, Canada, UK, and in the EU.  To order visit the website http://wellness.amazonherb.net/Pet_Care_Main.aspx or call Amazon Herb 800-835-0850 (in the US) and use this reference number: 113-551 to purchase at wholesale price.
At PetNaturalRemedies.com you will  also find natural herbal/homeopathic remedies for all types of veterinary health conditions.

Dogs love Dr. Miller's Holy Tea too!  Dogs enjoy drinking Dr. Miller's Holy Tea because it helps improve their digestion, thus eliminate bad breath and body odors. The tea also helps flush toxins and assists in cleansing waste and compacted fecal matter from the colon.  http://tinyurl.com/5an2fp

FLEA PROBLEMS, ALLERGIES, ITCHING, COMPULSIVE BITING or LICKING

A growing number of animals are experiencing severe skin problem with high susceptibility to flea bites. Fleas, like all parasites, prey on the weak, sick, and malnourished. These animals are also commonly experiencing inflammation spots on their tails and at the bottom of their paws with obsessive licking and biting the area.  Dr. Messonnier DVM, and other holistic vets, believe that over-vaccination, over-medicating, and poor nutrition (nutrients deficiency and/or toxic food), are major causes.

Dr. Blanco, D.V.M - "You take healthy animals and often very quickly after you vaccinate, you can see simple things like itching of the skin or excessive licking of the paws, sometimes even with no eruptions. We see a lot of epilepsy, often after a rabies vaccination. Or dogs or cats can become aggressive for several days. Frequently, you'll see urinary tract infections in cats, often within three months after their [annual] vaccination. If you step back, open your mind and heart, you'll start to see patterns of illness post-vaccination." ---- Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/petvacc.htm

Jeffrey Levy, DVM - "Have you ever wondered why some dogs and cats have severe flea problems, while others are hardly bothered by the little pests? Fleas can be viewed as an indicator of an animal's general health. Parasites in general, and fleas in particular, are most attracted to the weak, unhealthy, or very young animal whose immune system is not functioning well. The long-term solution to a flea problem is to reduce your pet's susceptibility to fleas by improving his/her health."

During the height of the flea season, I massage pure, all natural non-toxic Neem oil on my dog's skin everywhere I see redness or flea bites Sometimes I massage his entire body (if needed) with neem oil. It repels fleas like nothing else can. I repeat this once a week or whenever the fleas return. Neem oil: http://tinyurl.com/3stkq6  I have a wonderful recipe of natural products that I use with great success on my dog to stop itching and to heal flea bites or hotspots. Overweight Pet: Weight Management for Dogs and Cats  - Obesity is a significant health problem in many pets, and can contribute to major disease. There are many easily identifiable causes of weight gain in pets. Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/fatpets.htm

Joe Demers, D.V.M - "Another reason for overweight pets is what we feed our pet friends. Commercial pet food is anywhere between 45 percent to 65 percent carbohydrates (grains). Grains are the least expensive part of pet food and can fill the animal quickly. Dogs and cats are more carnivores than we humans are, and we are feeding them almost as much grain (or more) than we humans eat. I feel that this high-carbohydrate commercial pet food is the worst food we can feed our pet friends. Our pet friends need fresh meats, not dehydrated meat by-products.

HEALING CRISIS: As with all true natural cures, the road to better health may begin with a healing crisis. As your animal moves toward better health with natural healing programs and better nutrition, healing begins to occur. As part of the healing process the body will begin to discard toxic residues which have built up in his/her body over the years. The healing process usually does not occur without repercussions. During the initial phase of healing, as your animal begins to clean house, (detoxify) and its vital energy begins to repair and rebuild internal organs, it may possibly experience diarrhea, skin eruptions and discharge from the ear and nose. This is called a healing crisis and it is ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN and those cleansing symptoms should not be suppressed with drugs. The duration of a healing crisis varies, depending on your animal's constitution and age. Please consult with a holistic veterinarian if you have further questions about a healing crisis or visit Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/philo1.htm for more information.

    HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathy is renowned to be very effective and safe for all types of trauma and injuries (mental and physical) emotional problems, as
well as chronic or acute animal diseases (including all types of infection and cancer) and can antidote the side effects of vaccines.
Professional homeopathic doctors and vets also work with herbal extract. I credit homeopathy and RAW food for saving my dog's life. As a lay person, I studied homeopathy at home and when my dog Shasta gets sick I always use homeopathy and herbal extract right away instead of taking her to a vet. Homeopathy, herbs and reiki healing have helped Shasta recover from many serious "incurable illnesses" such as myositis, a stroke with paralysis, a severe abscess, and more. You can read my latest testimonial Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/shasta2.htm and Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/shasta.htm (part 1). TESTIMONIALS: I received the permission to publish on my site emails from people who shared their heart warming testimonials about their animals who fully recovered from cancer and other illness without drugs, surgery or radiation. TOXIC PRODUCTS and OUR PET'S HEALTH
With today's increasingly toxic environment, our pets are coming down with serious and  inexplicable health problems.  In many cases, the reason for our animal's health problem is due to an overload of toxins entering the dog's body via his paws, breathing cleaning and other chemicals in your home or kennel,  from chemicals sprayed on your lawn, in parks, on golf courses,  everywhere you take your dog there are toxic chemicals. There are natural alternatives to harsh conventional cleaning product  non-toxic, non-butyl, bio-degradable pet friendly products: Floorwash System - Degreaser - Glass Cleaner - BioDeodorizer. safe, non-toxic cleaning products

Brandon Brooks, DVM  - "Many (if not most) Over The Counter (OTC) or non-prescription  flea control products are very toxic to cats and kittens- especially the ones only approved for use in dogs. Many people mistakenly buy these for their pet (it's not always their fault, the companies that make them want you to buy it, they don't really care about the dangers involved) so it pays to be extra careful when buying flea control products." Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD -  "I once had an epileptic dog I had been treating unsuccessfully for eighteen months. One day its plastic feeding bowl was  accidentally broken and replaced with a ceramic one. The fits stopped immediately." There are newest research on why you should avoid feeding soy to your animals (soy products are extensively used in pet food).  "...the soybean contains large quantities of natural toxins or "antinutrients". First among them are potent enzyme inhibitors that block the action of trypsin and other enzymes needed for protein digestion. These inhibitors are large, tightly folded proteins that are not completely deactivated during ordinary cooking. They can produce serious gastric distress, reduced protein digestion and chronic deficiencies in amino acid uptake. In test animals, diets high in trypsin inhibitors cause enlargement and pathological conditions of the pancreas, including cancer. Soybeans also contain haemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance that causes red blood cells to clump together. Trypsin inhibitors and haemagglutinin are growth inhibitors." Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/avictim.htm
Recently there has been a tremendous increase in disorders like systemic lupus, multiple sclerosis,  cerebral palsy, "myelinoma", pulmonary hypertension and neuropathy. Soy and canola oils are players in the outbreak of these disease conditions. So are the organophosphates, insecticides such as malathion used in food production in the name of efficiency. more:  Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/nutraswt.htm#lupus

Kuuma, my gorgeous long hair German Shepherd rescuedHealing Traumatic Injuries Naturally
My 4 year old German Shepherd, Kuuma, (90 pounds) was attacked by a 35 pound Pitbull mix on August 8, 2005.  Kuuma is very aggressive and I instinctively held him back from fighting that dog. This was a big mistake which cost Kuuma to loose a portion of his leg. The wound was 3" long and 2" wide. The leg bone was exposed. I could clearly see a piece of the bone detached by the dog's bite. I never took Kuuma to the vet. Learn how I helped him healed in two weeks with natural remedies and by allowing him to lick his wound . Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/shasta2.htm#bitewound

Why I won't use the Elizabethan collar on my animals - The Elizabethan collar is a type of plastic collar that is effective in preventing pets from licking or biting themselves. The only time I will use such collar is to prevent my dog from tearing up surgical sutures, until healing is complete. I will never use such collar to prevent my dog from licking skin eruptions, hot spots, or infected area anywhere on her body. The dog's skin has an amazing ability to heal very quickly. Minor cuts, tears or abrasion heal with great ease thanks in part to a healing aid found in the dog's saliva. This built in germicide found in the saliva of a dog amazingly heals wounds in record time. An important part of hygiene and cleanliness is the tiger's rasping tongue. In a typical grooming action  the tiger will lick its paws and use them to wipe over the face, ears and forehead. This is identical to the actions used by the domestic cat. Any injuries are carefully licked and coated with antiseptic saliva from the tongue. This aids in preventing infection entering into a wound. More on cleanlisness and tongue of the cat.  I find that  preventing a dog from licking its skin or wounds is sad and cruel.

The Facts About Declawing - What You Really Need To Know Contrary to most people's understanding, declawing consists of amputating not just the claws, but the whole phalanx (up to the joint), including bones, ligaments, and tendons! To remove the claw, the bone, nerve, joint capsule, collateral ligaments, and the extensor and flexor tendons must all be amputated. Thus declawing is not a “simple”, single surgery but 10 separate, painful amputations of the third phalanx up to the last joint of each toe. A graphic comparison in human terms would be the cutting off of a person's finger at the last joint of each finger. Declawing is not without complication. The rate of complication is relatively high compared with other so-called routine procedures. Complications of this amputation can be excruciating pain, damage to the radial nerve, hemorrhage, bone chips that prevent healing, painful regrowth of deformed claw inside of the paw which is not visible to the eye, and chronic back and joint pain as shoulder, leg and back muscles weaken.

WATER FAST:  William Pollak D.V.M. says that occasional fasting by cats and dogs is a normal, natural phenomenon, especially when natural raw, fresh foods are fed. Very sick animals in the wild are known to fast on water for several days; it is the behavior of rest and purification. Water fast for people or animals have tremendous healing powers. Therapeutic Fasting is the world's most ancient and natural healing mechanism."  I routinely fast Shasta on water for 48 hours once every week or every other week. If she would be sick I would fast her on water for 2 to 5 days or longer if needed. I would never attempt to entice her to eat. More info on fasting animals: Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/ahealth.htm#fasting and Shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/fasting.htm

    F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. - "Every function inside the body is regulated by and depends on water. Water must be available to carry vital elements, oxygen, hormones, and chemical messengers to all parts of the body. Without sufficient water to wet all parts equally, some more remote parts of the body will not receive the vital elements that water supplies. Water is also needed to carry toxic waste away from the cells. In fact, there are at least 50 reasons why the body needs sufficient water on a regular, everyday basis. Without sufficient water to constantly wet all parts, your body's drought-management system kicks into action. The histamine-directed chemical messenger systems are activated to arrange a new, lower quota of water for the drought-stricken areas. When histamine and its subordinate "drought managers" come across pain-sensing nerves, they cause pain. This is what I discovered in my research that I mentioned earlier." Microwater machines generate alkaline living, energized water. This healing water is regarded by a growing number of health care professionals as the best water to drink. In fact the Microwater ionizer water filter is listed as a medical device in Japan and is used in the treatment of several degenerative diseases. Ionized water has several health promoting qualities.  Acid/alkaline balance is important in keeping the body strong, healthy, and free of stress. Drinking alkaline water is the simplest and most effective way to remove (flush out) acidic wastes from our body. Removing acid waste has also been attributed to reversing the aging process. (Read more on this from the book Reverse Aging by Sang Whang.) Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi, M.D. wrote an important article on the healing power of water. (Dr.Hayashi is the director of the Water Institute of Japan.) The alkaline water ionizer machine do more than simply purify tap water. It transform tap water into a living, energized, alkaline water.
