Understanding Homeopathic Holistic Veterinary

Holistic veterinary is working with the immune system and not against it and aiming not just for health, but also for resistance to disease. This can take time and some animals will never be totally free of adverse characteristics, but should live longer and healthier lives, with greater ability to fight off disease instead of being victim to whatever comes around. In practice this means an animal can have a so called fatal illness but have an immune system that with the right natural treatment can overcome the illness. The immune system which is encompassed in the term vital force depends on a variety of factors. These include age of the animal, type of disease, duration of illness as well as the innate vital force or qi that the animal was born with. Drugs, poor nutrition, constant vaccinations, chemical treatments for fleas and ticks all undermine the immune system and should be avoided as much as possible. Homeopathic remedies work with the body and not against it and when used correctly should leave the body healthier than it was before it was sick. Suppressive drugs such as antibiotics and cortisone steroid leave it weaker than before, although may have to be used in certain life threatening situations. In practice a homeopathic remedy will be prescribed for your individual pet, and over a period of time, which depends upon how serious the condition is, there should be a gradual return to health and well-being. There should be more energy, less disease symptoms, and ultimately none. Other benefits include a shiny coat, more balanced emotions and better teeth, and freedom from diseases such as chronic ear infections and skin allergies. Obviously this is not an overnight process, and takes some time and commitment for both the veterinarian and the animal caretaker. But the results should be a much healthier animal who lives a long and healthy life as is possible.

Dr. Steven Slagle, DVM Transfer factors have turned out to be the most effective and versatile large animal family products I have ever used in my 32-year veterinary practice. A cat with leukemia, an oral tumor, and posterior paralysis due to a spinal tumor, was very ill and emaciated. One month after transfer factors there was some regression of the oral tumor, restored appetite with some weight gain, and increased sociability. Five months later, she continues to improve, regaining normal weight, 80% regression of her oral tumor, and regaining use of hind legs and tail."

List of Veterinarians Who Practice Holistic Medicine

Dr Marlice Vonck DVM specializes in holistic natural healthcare that promotes longevity and enhances life quality in animals.

Telephone Consultations by Appointment 540-320-4603

Email Marlice Vonck DVM: 4life@keeplifenatural.com

Dr. Vonck provides holistic veterinary consultations using only natural veterinary modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy, Tuina massage, Postural Rehabilitation, homeopathy, Reiki, essential oils, flower remedies and nutraceuticals.

Dr Vonck’s mission is to educate owners in how to optimize their pets’ health through species-specific appropriate nutrition, strategic natural supplements and natural preventatives, and by avoiding health damage minimizing exposure to chemicals, vaccines, pharmaceuticals and environmental toxins.

Holistic veterinary consultations are designed to promote thriving health by addressing any imbalances by prescribing strategic supplements and through identifying nutritional and lifestyle management strategies for the owner to help keep their pets optimally healthy. Many conditions can be relieved, such as (but not limited to) arthritis, behavioral issues, skin allergies, gastro-intestinal issues, metabolic issues such as diabetes, thyroid disease, cancer, incontinence and musculo-skeletal injuries.

Dr. Will Falconer, D.V.M. Certified Veterinary Homeopath, Alternatives for Animal Health, Austin, Texas. Telephone Consultations by Appointment 512-288-5400 Experienced with Transfer Factor Dr. Falconer accepts a limited number of new patients most of the year. His Contact Page tells how to apply

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, University of Missouri 1980. Practice followed, with the first seven years providing conventional medical and surgical care to creatures large and small. Retraining in methods natural included certification in acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, followed by certification as a Veterinary Homeopath by the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy. Dr. Falconer has since 1992 dedicated his practice to classical homeopathy, with animal patients around the globe. Dr Falconer also uses Transfer Factor in his practice.

The philosophy of Alternatives for Animal Health is that we work with your animal’s innate healing abilities to achieve an optimal state of health. This is best accomplished by the smooth working together of doctor, care giver, and animal. The doctor depends on you the care giver to carefully watch and report on symptoms. He will use the information you provide to carefully guide the course of homeopathic care for your individual animal. As no two animals are exactly alike, even if they have the same diagnosis, we will focus on how your individual animal manifests illness and health. This uniqueness will guide the treatment according to the clear principals of classical homeopathy.

Vaccination issue - Vaccinations: See Dr. Falconer's 3 part analysis on vaccination issues

Question to Dr. Falconer: does vaccination (or over-vaccination) causes overactive immune reaction (autoimmune disorder) or does it cause suppression of the immune system?

Dr. Falconer: "The answer is YES. Probably both. Vaccination *confuses* the immune system, as I point out in my heartworm eBook. So, it could go either way, or alternate over time between the two. Transfer Factor is a natural nutritional product that help support the animal's immune system. A healthy immune system is capable of helping the body heal itself. Transfer Factor should be given before and immediately after vaccination for at least a few weeks to help ameliorate the confusion (when someone is faced with a mandatory vaccination, or has decided they want to give one). By giving the immune system with Transfer Factor, the immune intelligence should be able to better sort through the confusion, though I'm not sure that's measurable."

Dr. Michael Dym, DMV, Classical Veterinary Homeopathy -offers phone consultation - Experienced with Transfer Factor email: homeopathicvet@juno.com phone: 856-577-8064.

Dr. Dym is one of 250 veterinarians in the US trained in classical veterinary homeopathy by Richard Pitcairn, DVM, PhD. Dr. Dym is a presidential scholar graduate from Cornell University with his VMD from Penn. He is an active member of the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. www.doctordym.com/

"Over the past 40 years and 17 generations of dogs and, cats we are seeing tremendous increases in chronic ill health in our pets that was rare back in the early 1960's. Most of these illnesses revolve around breakdown in our pets' immune systems, and include chronic skin/ear allergies, digestive upset, thyroid/adrenal/pancreatic disorders, seizures, gum/ teeth problems, degenerative arthritis, kidney/liver failure, and cancer across all ages and breeds. We are also seeing a record number of behavioral and emotional disorders including alarming and unexplained fears/aggression., as well as difficulty focusing/training and paying attention. The analogy of these compared with escalating immune/behavioral diseases in children is quite disturbing. The two biggest factors in our pets' population health decline over these generations has been the severe overuse of multiple vaccines and nutrient poor and toxin filled commercial pet foods. We have also failed to address the underlying cause of disease by only sup pressing symptoms with antibiotics, cortisone and related drugs, so the disease progresses and goes deeper. Homeopathy offers a viable alternative in truly curing pets and making their bodies healthier."

Charles E Loops, DVM
Charles E Loops DVM takes phone consultation for animals, large and small. 38 Waddell Hollow Rd., Pittsboro, NC 27312 --- Phone: (919)542-0442 - Experienced with Transfer Factor

"After 10 years of traditional veterinary practice I became tired of having no treatment for chronic disease, incurable conditions, and a plethora of allergic maladies which seem to plague all veterinary practices. I was frustrated with giving animals cortisone (danger of steroids) because I had no other solutions, or using antibiotics (danger of antibiotics) for infections which I knew were of viral origin. At this time I had some chronic health problems, which had been unresolvable allopathically, but they responded to treatment by homeopathy. It took some time but it worked.!

This is when my philosophy about disease changed and my interest in classical homeopathy began. I studied with Richard Pitcairn, DVM, going to workshops that he offered for several years. I completed a year of study with Linda Johnston, M.D., author of Everyday Miracles who had a very successful homeopathic practice in Ca.. I have studied extensively and continue to do so. I progressively added homeopathy to my practice over a 4 year period and in February of 1992, I sold this practice so that I could devote myself to veterinary homeopathy exclusively.

My practice is mainly by referral and 95% by telephone consultation. I have treated thousands of cases using the principles of classical homeopathy and I continue to find this system of gentle healing to be the most effective therapy that has ever existed.

Dr Loops also offers alternative to routine vaccination with a SCHEDULE FOR IMMUNIZATION WITH HOMEOPATHIC NOSODES

Homeopathic vaccine antidote - By law, an animal must be vaccinated against rabies every three years. To protect your pet, you can request from Dr. Loops a homeopathic antidote to minimize or reduce vaccine damage. The cost is $6.00 for single doses and $15 for 1/4 ounce bottles for repeated dosing. I believe that sick animals or animals with a compromised immune system can get an examption to rabie vaccines. Check with your local animal control authorities.

Correctly prescribed homeopathic remedies can often undue the damage caused by vaccines Homeopathy is noted for its success to antidote or remove the toxic effects of vaccines and to re-establish balance in the organism and restore health. Certain homeopathic remedies taken after vaccination can minimize vaccine damage. A professional homeopathic vet should be consulted for more information.

Rabie Vaccines
By law, an animal must be vaccinated against rabies every three years. To protect your pet, you can request a homeopathic antidote to minimize the side effects of vaccine damage from Dr. Charlie Loops. For rabie vaccine, the remedy is "lyssin". The cost $6.00 for single doses and $15. for 1/4 ounce bottles for repeated dosing. Some nosodes seem to work more effectively than others. None produce titers against disease like a vaccination, so they are not vaccine replacements. They do seem to moderate a disease condition if the animal is exposed, even if they don't prevent it. Homeopathic nosodes are another option for guardians who wish to avoid vaccinations. Nosodes cost $15. each and provide many doses. They are dosed "as needed" and instructions are provided from Dr. Loop's office. Telephone Consultations by Appointment: Hours: 9-4 (EST) Mon., Tues., Wed., & Fri. (closed Thursdays) Phone: (919) 542-0442 Fax: (919) 542-0535

Dr. Patricia Jordan D.V.M is available to consult with you on a variety of topics concerning the health of your pet. A list of topics along with their description can be found in her website. Use her contact form to schedule your consultation.

Dr. Jordan has been a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) for the past 25 years and a practicing veterinarian for the past 23 years. Dr. Jordan has been on the front line of examining the effects of the veterinary vaccine protocols in the United States; she has been licensed in over a dozen states and has visited practices in over 13 states to observe first hand the effects of the current vaccine protocols. She graduated from North Carolina State University in l982. Large Animal Medicine and Surgery Externship at the New Bolton Center University of Pennsylvania. Equine Medicine and Surgery Research Scientist for the NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental and health Sciences) under Dr. John McGlaughlin in Toxicology. She was nominated for the 1986 Pubic Health Epidemiology Award for the NC College of Veterinary Medicine Certified in Veterinary Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine & Herbology, Tui Na and a student of the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida under Dr. Huisheng Xie and South China University of Agriculture, currently finishing the Master's Program in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Establishing four different veterinary facilities, originating six new veterinary facilities, certified by the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board.

Dr. Jordan is the author of Mark of the Beast: Hidden in Plain Sight. She cites research studies showing that annual vaccinations are totally unnecessary and especially in respect of rabies where over vaccination is causing genetic changes and violent behaviour in animals including horses. This annual regime financially benefits veterinary business practices and pharmaceutical companies at the expense of pet owners and their suffering, short lived companions. Dr Jordan also shows the connection between mass vaccinations and subsequent outbreaks of the same disease in the treated population which was vaccinated proving that vaccinations do not stop disease but actually cause it to spread. Dr. Jordan's blog contains informative articles such as Evidence of Damage from Pharmaceuticals, Replace Dangerous Drugs with Botanicals, Critical Nutrients Depleted By Prescriptions.

Dr. Dee Blanco DVM 505-986-3434 Santa Fe, NM

Dr. Blanco was trained at Colorado State University at a time when alternative medicine for animals did not exist. It was only after her own illness did she find homeopathy, which dramatically shifted her understandings about health and healing. She has practiced Holistic Medicine for most of her 28 years as a veterinarian with a focus in Classical Homeopathy and Nutritional Therapeutics. She consults via telephone from Santa Fe, New Mexico and has certifications in both Homeopathy and Acupuncture

"I am currently available for telephone consultations and use Classical Homeopathy and Nutritional Therapeutics for all types of animal dis-ease; physical and emotional. Although I am trained in allopathic medicine my first choice is to use natural methods that will assist the body’s already hardwired ability to heal. The Homeopathy stimulates the body's healing response, the nutrition and supplements feed the body, together they potentiate a more vital healing response. I am certified in Veterinary Homeopathy, trained by Dr. Richard Pitcairn, as well as other human homeopaths. I am also certified in Veterinary Acupuncture, trained through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). Currently I train with many of the country's foremost researchers and teachers in Functional/Nutritional medicine. Although I consult clients about Homeopathy, Nutrition and Nutracueticals my primary focus is education. It is through understanding the fundamentals of how to truly prevent illness we achieve the most resiliant and resistant body. It is also through these concepts as to how the the body maintains and sustains health, we can raise our expectations of wellness and vitality in our animals and ourselves.

Dr. Dee Blanco, D.V.M - "You take healthy animals and often very quickly after you vaccinate, you can see simple things like itching of the skin or excessive licking of the paws, sometimes even with no eruptions and licking of the air. We see a lot of epilepsy/seizure, often after a rabies vaccination. Or dogs or cats can become aggressive for several days. Frequently, you'll see urinary tract infections in cats, often within three months after their [annual] vaccination. If you step back, open your mind and heart, you'll start to see patterns of illness post-vaccination."

Jeffrey Levy, DVM - 413-268-3000 RR 01 Box 178-G - Williamsburg, Ma 01096

"My clinical practice is devoted exclusively to homeopathic treatment for dogs, cats, and horses. I also teach advanced veterinary homeopathy in seminars around the U.S. Homeopathy is a powerful and sophisticated system of medicine. With homeopathic remedies, I have been successful in treating a wide variety of health problems, including many that are very serious or for which there is no conventional treatment.

Treatment with allopathic drugs (antibiotics, steroids, hormones, etc.) should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. Corticosteroids (cortisone-type anti-inflammatory drugs) are the most abused and dangerous class of drugs. Not only do they not cure the underlying cause of the problem, they usually make the underlying problem, that is, the real problem, worse.

The greatest harm of drug treatment is usually not so much the toxicity or side effects as it is the effects of suppression. Allopathic (conventional Western) medical thinking generally seeks immediate gratification: just make the symptom go away. So the patient may be better in the short term, but is usually worse in the longer term. Homeopathy is just the opposite: sometimes the symptoms are worse in the short term (such as with aggravation or the reversal of a previous suppression), but the real benefit is in the longer term.

A symptom, say itchy skin, is the body's response to a deeper problem. When a symptom is suppressed, it is only the outward manifestation of the problem that goes away. Since the deeper problem is still there, the body may, in time, produce the same symptom again. Another possibility is that, as a result of the suppression, the deeper problem progresses to the point that a deeper, more serious symptom is produced. So the itchy skin may go away, but then chronic diarrhea develops. If the diarrhea is then suppressed as well, it may lead to, say, liver disease. But hey, at least the skin is cleared up!"

Nicolas Baudin-J., vet graduate from the Alfort National Veterinary School, near Paris, in 1992. Since 1996, I have been working on cattle (beef, cows, calves, ewes, goats) and much more now on dogs, cats and horses. Specialised in homopathy after a two year course il Lyon, in 1999 and 2000, getting instructed in Vet School in apiculture, to help finding alternate and new solutions to the bee CCD, I have moved back to university to be retaught in quantic physics and chemistry.

I have also participated to courses about cell biology, especially Vincent's bio-electronic and Cell Symbiosis Therapy. By the way, I have got a large panel of therapic tools and a holistic vision of medicine, in which Transfer Factor have an important place, to propose to my customers. Since 1998, I have created my own lab to imagine, create and sell my selfmade food suppliants with medical claims to other vets, in France of course and in Europe and Quebec as soon as possible. My lab's name is Aqua Bio Vet. It is possible for me to offer distant consultation, I already have done it, it is not a problem with good interacting.

My opinion is to vaccinate as less as possible, only when the epidemic risk is real and if nothing makes me think that the immune system is able to answer correctly to the injection. Especially, on horses, I don't vaccinate against tetanos and flu each year as recommanded, but every three years, that is all. We vaccinate too much in France. I advice raw food diet when it is possible

"My practice is both equine and small animals and some exotics and am very pleased with the rate at which the animals are helped with the holistic therapies. I do phone consultations- I am not certified, although I have home studied most of Dr. Pitcairn's courses and feel very qualified for this type of practice.

“After 15 years in conventional practice, I began to notice the ill effects caused by yearly vaccinations and the routine use of steroids and antibiotics. I also realized that an inferior diet was contributing to the ill health of many of my patients. I was frustrated with the increasing number of chronically ill patients which I was seeing and their poor response to conventional treatment. This caused me to sell my conventional practice and study Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, including Acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, and nutritional therapy. While I found this to help many patients, I was still seeking a more effective therapy for these chronically ill patients. I studied homeopathy with Dr. Richard Pitcairn and completed his Homeopathy Course for veterinarians. I found homeopathy to be a superior form of medicine which effectively treats most chronic conditions. Combined with a customized nutritional plan, I have found that homeopathy can dramatically improve the quality of life for our animal companions.”

Betsy Harrison made the switch from conventional to alternative ways of thinking about health and disease after having witnessed the remarkable results that Homeopathy can yield without side-effects, without invasive techniques. Dr. Harrison promotes a healthy diet which most mimics the natural diet for dogs and cats, one of raw meat and raw meaty bones, with some green vegetables. She's also aware that vaccinations by-pass all the body's natural defenses and can cause chronic disease.

Veterinary Success Using Transfer Factors
We all know the importance of an optimal immune system, not only after surgical procedures or fighting disease and serious illness, but also in your patient's or pet's everyday wellness. Recent in vitro and in vivo studies on Transfer Factor Plus documented an increase in Natural Killer cell activity in humans by 248% and 269% respectively, over baseline immune response. The NK cell is the animal's first line of defense against many pathogens... bacteria, viruses, parasites, and of course malignant tumor cells.

Charles W. Brown, DVM writes: "My colleagues and I have found this product to be very effective in modulating the immune system. Transfer factor is a "soup" of immune-modulating factors, which contains a leukocyte-type molecule that can passively transfer immunity from one mammal to another by stimulating cell-mediated immunity and is antigen specific. Richard Bennett, Ph.D., an Infectious Disease Microbiologist and Immunologist from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, believes this could be the most significant development in animal health care in decades. We have a great number of veterinarians and clients who are experiencing very positive results in a broad area of disorders, including periodontal. "

The important role of quality water

F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. - "Every function inside the body is regulated by and depends on water. Water must be available to carry vital elements, oxygen, hormones, and chemical messengers to all parts of the body. Without sufficient water to wet all parts equally, some more remote parts of the body will not receive the vital elements that water supplies. Water is also needed to carry toxic waste away from the cells. In fact, there are at least 50 reasons why the body needs sufficient water on a regular, everyday basis. Without sufficient water to constantly wet all parts, your body's drought-management system kicks into action. The histamine-directed chemical messenger systems are activated to arrange a new, lower quota of water for the drought-stricken areas. When histamine and its subordinate "drought managers" come across pain-sensing nerves, they cause pain. This is what I discovered in my research that I mentioned earlier." You cannot poison your animal into health with drugs, chemo or radiation. The holistic approach treats the whole animal, ignites the body's internal healing force and stimulates the body's natural abilities to heal itself "Health can only be achieved with healthful living" T.C.Fry

Allergies can be, and often are, unrecognized deficiency diseases. Recognizing nutritional deficiencies will save you a great deal of frustration and allow you to make the necessary adjustments in your dog’s diet.

Holistic Animal Health and Optimum Pet Nutrition

A growing number of veterinarians state that processed pet food is the main cause of illness and premature death in the modern dog and cat. In December 1995, the British Journal of Small Animal Practice published a paper contending that processed pet food supresses the immune system and leads to liver, kidney, heart and other diseases. Dr. Kollath, of the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, headed a study done on animals. When young animals were fed cooked and processed foods they initially appeared to be healthy. However, as the animals reached adulthood, they began to age more quickly than normal and also developed chronic degenerative disease symptoms. A control group of animals raised on raw foods aged less quickly and were free of degenerative disease. For a return to health, pets require a diet which strengthens the immune system and most closely resembles that which they would get in the wild. It's really easy to do.

    Veterinary Malpractice

"Of the tens of thousands of veterinarians practicing in the United States, many are incompetent, careless or both. Others fail to deliver adequate care because their singular focus on profits makes them unwilling to pay for qualified employees, equipment, supplies, etc. I have even known of one vet who diluted her euthanasia drugs and another who re-used single-use surgery supplies. Unnecessary deaths and suffering have become commonplace." Diane Parrish - Law Offices of Diane Parrish - Veterinary malpractice; injuries to animals.

"Most of what I've learned about the holistic care and treatment of my dog I've learned from Shirley's Wellness Cafe. This vast and detailed resource is the result of a journey of natural healing that webmaster Shirley used on herself and her family to completely turn their lives around. Those lessons are applied here with full force for the benefit of our canine companions. Raw food diets, detailed feature articles on a wide variety of wellness topics, health reports, and studies are all represented here in a slightly cluttered, yet home-style approach that blends a first-person knowledge and passion for the subject with a caring and nurturing writing style. Thank you, Shirley. The 'net's a better place because of sites like yours."Gene Sower, Editor and Guide of dogs.about.com
