Veterinary Homeopathy Remedies

Our society has been conditioned with quick-fix and band-aid medicine. We know from experience that this often times only gives temporary relief and in fact can generate a rebound effect of symptoms or undesirable side-effects. Homeopathy can play a very large part in the successful rearing of our animals. Homeopathy is essentially a natural healing processes, providing remedies to assist the sick or injured animal to regain health by stimulating the body's natural forces of recovery.

Veterinary Homeopathy

There is so much that can be done for a mammal, bird, or reptile that is ailing by utilizing homeopathic veterinary care.

There are a number of homeopathic books for beginners that teaches the basics of homeopathy and first-aid prescribing with homeopathic remedies. You can learn to resolve many if not most emergencies on your own from the comfort of your home. Homeopathic remedies are inexpensive, non-toxic, safe and very effective. I learned how to use homeopathy for my family and my pets with a few homeopathic books and I own a 100-remedy homeopathic kit. Some veterinarians who use homeopathy in their practice offer phone consultation and guidance.

The Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy states "Almost any problem that can be treated by traditional western medicine (allopathy) can be treated by homeopathy. Examples of chronic diseases that respond to homeopathy include, skin allergies and inflammation, asthma, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, epilepsy, thyroid disease and a host of other conditions. Veterinarians who practice classical homeopathy according to academy standards have found that many otherwise chronically ill patients can be restored to health. They have also found that homeopathy can rapidly and gently treat a diverse array of acute conditions from traumatic injuries to infections and poisonings."

Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs "Our society has been conditioned with quick-fix and band-aid medicine. We know from experience that this often times only gives temporary relief and in fact can generate a rebound effect of symptoms or undesirable side-effects. complementary medicine, in particular Homeopathy and Herbs, can play a very large part in the successful rearing of our animals. Homeopathy and Herbs are essentially, natural healing processes, providing remedies to assist the patient to regain health by stimulating the body's natural forces of recovery. They concentrate on treating the patient, rather than the disease." Marina Zacharias

Homeopathy has its own method of diagnosing and its own special remedies. The remedies are all natural, rarely have side-effects and are not addictive. They are safe for adults, the elderly as well as for infants, children and animals. Even pregnant women can take the remedies safely. Homeopathic remedies are very effective in acute and chronic diseases.

In his book, Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs: Small Doses for Small Animals, Dr. Hamilton begins by explaining how as a veterinarian, he grew increasingly frustrated with the limitations 'modern' veterinary care; of how he was often only able to provide temporary relief, with ailments returning time and time again. He tells of his exploration into alternative veterinary medicine and how by the mid/late 90's, he had become convinced of the benefits of natural/homeopathic sustenance, prevention and treatment.

He carefully explains the theories and principles behind homeopathic care, of how it deals with the entire being (pet or human), seeking always to identify and treat root causes of ailments and diseases. He expresses his concerned that 'modern' medicine is too often symptom oriented, and drugs are prescribed to suppress symptoms without curing the ailment itself. With symptom suppressing medication, relief is temporary and over time, ailments often reappear in even more virulent forms.

Dr. Hamilton cautions the reader of common pitfalls faced by beginners and emphasizes that proper homeopathic care requires much careful & systematic observation. He tells how homeopathic care is deeply rooted in human civilization and quickly dispels any notion that homeopathic remedies are 'quack' remedies based on old wives' tales.

Homeopathy cured a cat's metritis

Dr. Falconer's cat, Cali had apparently become a teen bride. She had a weak meow, chilled body temperature, and when I lifted her from the grass, it was apparent she had none of her usual strength. As she hung limp in my hands, a dirty red discharge flowed from her vagina. Along with the putrid smell of dying tissue, reminding me of my past cow patients whose placenta, in failing to drop after calving, continued to cook in the 102º uterus where it’s purpose was fulfilled days prior. My diagnosis: metritis. The raging, foul process of inflammation of the uterus. Maybe from a retained placenta or dead kittens or an abortion that hadn’t finished completely. I knew I had to act quickly if I was going to save her. Learn how Dr. Falconer, DVM saved Cali with homeopathy.

Homeopathy for Cats

Homeopathy for Catsby Michelle Bernard

Home base business opportunity"One thing that I really don't care to have to do to my cats is medicate them. Cats in general don't like to be messed with and pilling them or applying topical medicine is the ultimate in "messing". It's hard to find a more compelling reason for the use of classical homeopathy, a form of medicine where one dose (which entails "chucking" a few tiny pellets down a cat's throat) can make the difference between life and death or between chronic illness and a life of freedom." My Dog Introduced me to Homeopathy

David Dore, a Fellow of The British Institute of Homeopathy and a registered Homeopath with the Homeopathic Medical Association in the UK.

Homeopathy for Dogs At the age of six Ralph was in pain from arthritis and spondylitis and his vet suggested homeopathic treatment for him. Our other options were steroids or, if he was in too much pain, to have him put to sleep.I've always believed having a dog as part of the family holds similar responsibilities as having a disabled child, "one needs to be aware of their needs to lead a fulfilling life".

As Ralph was unable to even walk a few yards without screaming in pain, which meant he could no longer enjoy the beautiful park we live next to in London and he had grown to know since he was fourteen weeks old we decided to go ahead with homeopathic treatment for him.Within six months Ralph was walking around his familiar routes in the park and under a year of having treatment was running around again without any pain.

It was after a year of homeopathic treatment for Ralph that a psychiatrist I know stopped me in the park and told me that he was aware that Ralph was being treated homeopathically. He was amazed at the improvement in Ralph's condition, which had prompted him to question the efficacy of homeopathy. At a later encounter he told me that Ralph had completely changed his views on homeopathy and really considered homeopathic treatment as an effective health care system. I have since learned that the same psychiatrist refers his patients to a homeopath before considering conventional psychiatric treatment.

I am telling this story about Ralph as he was a unique Labrador/Retriever and had many friends who loved him, from children to adults. Often when walking with Ralph in London people would cross over the street just to touch him, even children who apparently were afraid of dogs. Yes Ralph was very special. Even the Princess Royal HRH Princess Anne, requested that Ralph was to be around when she made her first visit to our premises as she had heard so much about him.

It is through Ralph I became interested in homeopathy as a medical system that works for acute and chronic illnesses and began my training as a homeopathic practitioner.

Treating Canine Aggressive Behavior with Homeopathy

by Monica Clarke

After reading a posted message about an aggressive Cocker Spaniel on www.petfinders.com, I adopted Rusty from Cocker Rescue in northern Washington State in October 2004, sight unseen. He was close to being euthanize after being in three different homes and displaying extreme aggressive behavior, including several incidences of biting. He was abused as a puppy until he was about one year old, when his person dropped him off at an animal shelter. Cocker Rescue found a home for him, but it didn't last due to his aggression. They took him back and then placed a plea for help at Pet finders after fostering him for four months.

Books on Veterinary Homeopathy He was a very difficult dog to live with. Constantly tense, growling, showing his teeth, biting (he even sent me to the Emergency Room once), and not at all engaged or interested in life around him. He seemed to be caught in a solitary world of mistrust. Once when I accidentally nudged him in the middle of the night, around 3a.m., he half awoke and stalked me, crawling on his belly, eyes staring straight through me, emitting a low growl, through the bedroom until I retreated to another room and closed the door. He did not show aggressive tendencies, however, to my 15 year old Samoyed, 15 year old cat, or 8 month old kitten; but he also didn't have any idea how to play.

I immediately took him to a canine behavioral therapist to learn how to effectively train Rusty and build a trusting relationship. I have had many dogs in my lifetime and trained them all, but I was amazed at how much I learned. While our daily relaxation/training sessions helped, he was still tense, would attack anyone coming through my door, and was not the happy pup he should be at 1-1/2 years old. I found myself dreading to enter my own home and was exhausted at having to be constantly on guard. After the 3a.m. stalking incident, I decided it was time for a homeopathic remedy.

Rusty was given a well selected homeopathic remedy on a Saturday afternoon in late November 2004. The next morning he was less rigid in his posture. He gradually improved over the next few months and at this writing (April 2004), he's a totally different dog. Aggressive is a term I wouldn';t even use with him now. He acts his age, is happy, has learned to play, doesn't growl or bare his teeth, and can't wait to show visitors his toys. I particularly enjoy treating aggressive dogs. Along with behavioral therapy (for both human and dog), and homeopathy, there is hope for these tormented animals and their concerned guardians.

Homeopathy for Wild Animals

Homeopathy for Wild Animals Wild animals are commonly admitted for rehabilitation with health problems. Many of these conditions are a result of an injury, such as a fall, blow, or puncture. The animal may arrive in shock, dehydrated, emaciated, in respiratory distress, or having seizures. Wildlife rehabilitators provide quiet, heat, fluids and basic first aid - as well as effective rehabilitation care, such as appropriate diets and facilities. They work closely with veterinarians to ensure the animal gets the appropriate veterinary care.

Wild HealthLike many others in the last decade, wildlife rehabilitators have become more aware of and interested in alternatives to conventional medical practice. This does not mean that they are turning away from conventional veterinary care, but rather considering a wider range of options that might help their wild patients regain health and return to the wild more quickly. Many of these health care modalities, or approaches, are considered complementary to conventional western medicine. They include homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic, botanical (herbal) medicine, and flower essences.

A prominent German newspaper reported on the impressively effective use of homeopathic medicines in treating chickens. Approximately 800,000 laying hens in 140 poultry farms are presently under homeopathic care. In 1981 the Poultry Health Service of Heidelburg installed homeopathic veterinary care, and not a single antibiotic has been prescribed since 1983.

Introduction to Veterinary Homeopathy

by Anna Maria Gardner MA Vet.MB MRCVS Holistic Veterinarian, Certified in Veterinary Homeopathy

Homeopathy Books Small Animals Homeopathic remedies are extremely dilute substances, which may be from the plant, mineral or animal kingdoms, that are used to treat many types of disease process. A single homeopathic remedy is chosen to treat the whole animal, including their mental, emotional and physical symptoms. This is in contrast to conventional or allopathic medicine where symptoms are suppressed or removed by the use of drugs such as antibiotics or pain killers. Of course there are certain life threatening situations where antibiotics are essential, but homeopathy actually stimulates the body to heal itself, and strengthens the immune system, and consequently leaves the body in a better state of health than before it became sick.

Homeopathic remedies use minute amounts of substances to act as a trigger to the body and stimulate its natural immune system. We are working with the immune system and not against it and aiming for a cure. This can take time and some animals will never be totally free of symptoms, but should live longer and healthier lives as a result of the treatment they will receive. In practice this means an animal can have a so called fatal illness but have an immune system that with the right homeopathic trigger can overcome the illness. The immune system which is encompassed in the term vital force depends on a variety of factors. These include age of the animal, type of disease, duration of illness as well as the innate vital force or "Qi" that the animal was born with. Drugs, poor nutrition, constant vaccinations, chemical treatments for fleas and ticks all undermine the immune system and should be avoided as much as possible. All these factors lead to the development of chronic disease which is characterized by specific symptoms.

THE HEALING EFFECT

Initially when a homeopathic remedy is taken nothing may appear to happen. The remedy will start to work but nothing may be apparent to begin with. In acute conditions the effect is more rapid, and after a short time some improvement may be noted. One important thing to look out for is an aggravation - this refers to a slight worsening of the symptoms for a short while, followed by improvement. This is the healing reaction to the body, and is a good sign that the correct remedy was chosen. Usually in chronic disease the aggravation may be seen after about three to five days.

Homeopathyc First AidThen gradual improvement should be noted. In acute disease situations where the onset was more rapid and severe an aggravation might not necessarily occur or be noticed. However, after one or more doses of the appropriate remedy improvement should be noticed. In many cases acute illnesses are really flare ups of underlying chronic disease, so a follow up with more chronic treatment is often advisable and treats the real root of the problem and prevents further episodes of acute disease. In chronic diseases one dose of a homeopathic remedy is usually given, or a daily dose of a lower potency. The effect is observed over several weeks. The aggravation, if it occurs will usually be after about three to five days. Even though there may be some worsening of symptoms, the overall feeling should be better - so the animal may have more energy, and vitality than before, for example.

Giving more than one remedy at a time is also not to be recommended. It is best to give a single, carefully chosen remedy, at the correct potency and dosage. How long the remedy is effective for depends upon the vital force or qi of the patient, the potency of the remedy, the specific remedy that was given as well as the severity of the disease. The first rule of homeopathy is wait, wait, wait. It is important to be observant to notice the effects of the remedy and determine what is happening. Most importantly was that remedy curative, or if another remedy going to be more effective. Often the next time a chronic remedy is administered a higher potency must be given the next time as the body has become stronger and a stronger remedy is now needed to get a healing effect.

Homeopathy for the Herd

by C.Edgar Sheaffer, V.M.D

Homeopathy for the Herd "A couple of weeks ago I came out to milk my goats and was dismayed to find two of my new goat kids frozen to death. Upon closer examination, the doe kid still seemed to have what was left of the life in her. I brought her in the house and began working on her. I was getting no response and when she did finally thaw out it seemed that there was probably neurological damage (the closest thing I can use to describe her state) as she could not stand, sit or hold her head up. She was like a rag doll. I could feel the life slipping from her. I decided to give her Carbo Veg. and in 10 minutes, she was standing and eating. I know what it is like to lose an animal in this condition, so I know that it was the remedy that turned her and not just getting warmed up. I wish I had a video tape. It was the most amazing thing I have experienced yet.

Last week our Australian cattle dog came home with a lacerated (it had a slit all the way across and there was something protruding from it) eye (probably from a bob cat) which was also pushed back in the socket. I administered arnica for the trauma and then euphrasia. The eye was completely healed within three days and there was no blindness. I have seen homeopathy work over and over in my animals and my family and there is no doubt in my mind that it is NOT a placebo"

Homeopathic Treatment of Horses

I've been a veterinarian for 15 years, and have been using homeopathy in practice for the past 10 years. Homeopathy can treat many conditions that cannot be diagnosed or treated by conventional medicine. One condition that is very difficult to treat conventionally is Equine Recurrent Uveitis, also called Equine Periodic Ophthalmia or Moon Blindness.

My Belgian mule developed this condition very suddenly in the summer of 2004. Fluid was weeping from his eye down the side of his face, the membranes around his eye were puffy and red, and his cornea was cloudy. His eye was painful, and he didn't want me anywhere near his head.

I recognized the signs immediately. I considered conventional medical treatment briefly. It is often intense, expensive, and unsuccessful. It would also require me to put many medicated drops and ointments into his eye. I'm 5 feet tall, and my mule is a towering 17 hands at the withers. That kind of treatment just didn't seem realistic.

I opted for homeopathic treatment instead. There are many remedies that will address eye inflammation and pain. I gave him six different remedies over the next couple of days. Each brought about small improvements in his condition, and the final remedy allowed his body to resolve the painful eye condition overnight. He has not had any relapses, and is now aging gracefully into his thirties.

In my 100% holistic veterinary practice, I use homeopathy as my primary therapy, supported by nutrition, whole food supplements, re that promotes longevity and enhances life quality in animals.

Testimonial about the amazing healing power of homeopathy
by Shirley (author of this website

Homeopathy at Home When we got our new dog Shasta, she was severely emaciated and weak; she had diarrhea, massive wax discharge from her ears which were continually irritated and inflamed and she had also an a ongoing eye and nasal discharge. Soon she developed miosotis of the jaw bones (inflammation of the muscle of the jaw bone) and could hardly eat because the slightest movement of her mouth caused severe pain. The vet told me that the her immune system was failing, that nothing could be done to save her and suggested that I put her to sleep. 10 years later she is still happily with us.

I have personally witnessed the amazing healing power of homeopathy, herbal extracts and Reiki energy healing in traumatic emergency situations and in acute and chronic disease with my older dog Shasta. Some of the healings, which took place, were nothing short of miraculous. - Read my testimonial of a complete recovery with homeopathic treatment of the following: abscess - VKHsyndrome - and a stroke with paralysis of the rear end.

Overcoming Disaster in Von Shrado Great Danes Kennel
By Sandy Hann

Jim and Sandy Hann have experienced amazing success with homeopathy for their champion dogs and for themselves "In the past 4 years, I feel I have made a lot of progress with my dogs health. One in particular, Ginny. Her first litter, she whelped one live puppy, one dead and then a C-section to remove 2 dead puppies. After a lot of homeopathy treatments, her second litter was a litter of 7 whelped normally and her last litter, a litter of 4 sired by Fridge whelped normally. I had bred her 2 other times to Fridge when he was alive but she did not conceive.

My Ch Betty is another. She just whelped a litter of 8 live puppies in April. Her previous litter was another litter of 8 but 4 were born dead. Before that she had a litter of 2. She received extensive homeopathy treatment in between the last 2 litters and absolutely no vaccines.

She had a Rabies Vaccine a month before being bred with the litter with 4 dead puppies in it. 200+ dogs in Germany are given a distemper vaccine and a Parvovirus vaccine only, at age 10 weeks and 1 year. No other vaccines are given except occasionally rabies, when needed. Their diet varies from home-prepared to commercial. These dogs are having litters and showing at 10 years of age, and live to 16 or so. In the States, many Shepherds are dying by the age of 10. Other breeders have found that stopping vaccination has made their line much healthier, and usually immune (through good health) to the infectious agents that usually cause disease. Not always, of course. Some dogs or cats are very susceptible to disease and will become infected and may die. Most survive epidemics with mild disease, if treated holistically."
